Vermont's Quadricentennial celebration kicks off! Throughout 2009 Vermont looks back on 400 years of history, recognizing cultures that existed in the region long before European influences arrived and striving to understand how Vermont's people and landscape have changed through the centuries following Samuel de Champlain's historic 1609 visit to the lake that bears his name. Big Heavy World and the Vermont Music Library have been a part of the statewide effort to create - within this celebration - a legacy of understanding that will serve Vermonters for years after the 2009 events have ended. Our participation on the Education and Marketing committees of the Quadricentennial Commission have been a welcome oportunity to keep Vermont's music near the heart of this immense cultural initiative. Our Quadricentennial projects include Big Heavy World's annual 'IndieCon,' a free, all-ages music conference in downtown Burlington that will bring together the jazz and hardcore punk rock artists of Vermont and France, and 'Thrufters & Throughstones,' a CD collection of music found in Vermont during the past 400 years, including the music of our 'precontact' Abenaki citizens. Learn more about 'Thrufters & Throughstones' and the Vermont Quadricentennial Celebration.
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Join us at the Burlington International Waterfront Festival, Sunday July 12 for performances by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, The Jennifer Hartswick Band, and Pine Island (reuniting for this special event!), celebrating the release of 'Thrufters & Throughstones.' More information can be found at CelebrateChamplain.org, the official Vermont Quadricentennial web site.
Vermont Musicians: The Vermont Music Library & Shop is here to be sure your music becomes part of Vermont's cultural legacy, preserving your music for future generations and celebrating it in the present. Our programs are diverse, ranging from CD releases to the Vermont Jukebox Project, putting Vermont-made music into Visitor Welcome Centers on the highways across the state. Our interest is inclusive of every style of music, from traditional to post-rock. Explore our programs (follow the links on the left side of the page), and please introduce us to your music if it isn't already in the listening library or in the shop. We welcome you to send or drop-off a copy of any recordngs you've been a part of so we could add them to our historic Vermont music collection and bring your music to the inventory of the online shop (see 'About').
